A Distant Plain

A Distant Plain

A Distant Plain brings the COIN Series to modern Afghanistan, placing 1–4 players in the tangled realities of post-9/11 conflict. A swift invasion gives way to a long, complex struggle, where shifting loyalties, regional politics, and insurgency turn a seemingly straightforward mission into something far more intricate.

Players take on one of four factions—Coalition, Government, Taliban, or Warlords—each with its own goals, strengths, and internal tensions. Cooperation is often necessary, but never simple, as competing priorities and fragile alliances shape every decision. Whether stabilising the country, rebuilding influence, or resisting control, each faction must navigate a landscape where military power alone is never enough.

Building on the acclaimed COIN system, the game blends political, cultural, and military elements into a single, elegant framework. New features such as joint operations, evolving tactics, and the influence of Pakistan add depth without increasing complexity, while a deck of events ensures that no two games unfold the same way.

Playable solo or with up to four, A Distant Plain offers a nuanced, strategic experience that captures the uncertainty and tension of modern irregular warfare—where every move carries consequences, and no path to victory is straightforward.
