Edvard Munch: The Sun

At a staggering 25 feet long and 14 feet tall, depicts a glowing sunrise over the rocky archipelago off Kragerø, Norway, and is considered one of the greatest achievements of modern mural painting. Edvard Munch’s fascination with nature and Vitalism emphasised the sun as an energy-giving force, and the symmetry, structure, and power of this painting enforce its significance. The Sun continues to shine to this day in the enormous front space of Oslo University’s assembly hall and remains one of Munch’s most recognisable masterpieces.
